In Talks With: Jenovaplus+
AN ARTIST WHO STRIVES TO MANIPULATE SOUND

Over the past few months, I have been attempting to catch the first-ever human gopher. Over the past two years, I have gotten to know Jenovaplus, spending a lot of time sharing influences, references, music, photography, and an immense amount of information about anime. We have been to tunnel raves, nightclubs, and random parts of Austin, all while dodging close-call situations where Jenovaplus almost had to show what years of blackbelt training looks like.
By all accounts, Jenovaplus is full of surprises; you never know what you will get with someone whose energy resembles Sora from Kingdom Hearts. Some nights, the world gets the Jenova that will practically have an entire club call out to them, trying to catch up with the latest fashion choice Jenovaplus decided to make. Other nights would be filled with a person who is up for being tested, I will never forget watching Jenovaplus wearing a raccoon hat telling bar bouncers they would be pistolwhipped.
But at the end of the night, when the conversations had over a cigarette or a joint supplied by our good friend Tucker Thomspon were over, the moments always added to the fact that Jenovaplus, in my eyes, was an artist. A pioneer within their world of sound. Swinging swords while discovering a way to unlock themselves through an essence of ambient sounds, promising to provide a new way of life.

So you texted me at 2:40 am Saturday, inviting me to the body mechanics rave in Austin, TX. How was that?
J+: it was enigmatic that’s why i wanted you there with your partner lol( ´Д`)y━･~~ i thought they would have a magical time in this moment hearing these sounds bounce of the floor wall and ceilings.
I'm sure she would have enjoyed that. I only have told her stories of our adventures of long nights spent club hopping and going to raves drunk, being driven around by Tucker.
What’s the sensation of having your hinge profile location set to NY while you live in Texas?
J+: funny enough i move the profile all over the world not just ny I use it to build connections through art and media. however i used to move it to meet that special someone that i thought would be in ny for some reason?? baha
How has music and the Nina Protocol music platform been treating you?
J+: i love nina its been good to artists and that to mean is really what’s most important. so many talented artists you could have never even heard of all through a site that allows you to release free music of any genre and connect with artists from all walks of life shoutout Nina.
I love how Nina supports all of the artists, no matter what genre they wish to break into. Nina is for the people.
I know you are really into Letterboxd. What are some of your favorite films and favorite actors?
J+: as you know i’m a big fan of björk so her performance in dancer in the dark will always be special to me. julien donkey boy with chloë sevigny absolutely beautiful film actually most people around our age seem to be huge fans of gummo i think people should give this a try especially if you’ve grown up all your life mental deficiencies and what not. it’s also gorgeously shot and the the soundtrack just nulls you in its a wild experience

I know your apartment almost caught fire; how are you recovering from that?
J+: the fire was a strange experience i think it was difficult for me to process at the time cause it is kind of a wild exper i guess but im honestly just glad im able to see people again you never know what can happen in life. i’m lucky and privileged to see the world it kind of lit a spark in me also with the help of tucker who let me crash at their place during the remodel.
Definitely a blessing.
Why do you like Tomatopaste Modelo beer?
J+: as for the modelo chelada especial💗
it’s the best liquid to hit my taste buds truly crafted to perfection. i actually hate the taste of most alcohol but wine though i enjoy occasionally tequila also.
I will forever be a hater of this alcohol decision of yours, but as a friend of mine, I support it.
What are some of your ideologies based around death?
J+: death is interesting i’ve been fascinated with it since not to get randomly dark but my first suicide attempt when i was younger was not an accident i think i wanted to see into another world. the fact that people come and go people you build the deepest admiration for to suddenly vanish without a trace had an effect on me as it does to anyone whose been through a lot of death. what’s funny is i never thought id see a day where id stop trying to end things end pain but now that i don’t hurt myself anymore i now have seemed to lost the fear of death
If you could collaborate with an artist, big or small, who's your pick?
J+: hmmmmmm i wanna be semi realistic here cause i know i will never get a chance to collab with björk but working with laurel halo, ben bondy, special guest dj, james k, helen island, priori, friendzone, jitus, sniffany and the nits, muslimgauze,tujiko noriko, brenda ray, saâda bonaire, gyeongsu, coppé, jśa, HRTK, triš, chiasm, stina nordenstam, klein, hysterical love project, beth sawtls, chickenmilk dot com, astrid sonne, gigi fm, nudo, etc… i could go on for years actually

I enjoy seeing you speak on worldly issues and shine a light on the evil in the world, but what brings you peace when the world can seem so cold?
J+: sound games & anime have always been my escape from reality when times are bleak. it’s like hearing another voice added to the already many voices in your head but this time it’s showing & telling you that you aren’t alone. characters in alternate realities go though similar situations as we do. that’s always given me a high appreciation for different fields of artistic expression especially regarding life in times of chaos. humans have had the same thoughts before ya know for centuries ultimately it’s how we take that and change it is up to us.

Do you feel that everything you wanted in life is going according to plan?
J+: sadly no i wish that’s how things worked but i don’t think i would be who i am today without the shit i’ve been through. life is ever-changing as we know but all i can be is optimistic
Are you still making all of your music in Garageband?
J+: i’m a firm believer in accessibility so when i create i like what’s most comfortable to me & easiest for me garageband & ableton i have fortunately seemed to grasp the sound that i want
What does Tekken mean to you?
J+: tekken doesn’t mean shit to me tbh but for some reason that jaguar ass guy i have a weird attraction for ig. i like that he growls instead of speaking coherent sentences. personally i would fold chief.
